Coping With anxiety

It’s completely normal to feel anxious when you’re on active monitoring. You might feel uneasy about not starting treatment right away, or worry about what the future holds. You’re not alone — many people feel the same.

The good news is, there are lots of simple, supportive ways to help ease that anxiety. Here are some things that might help:

Talk to someone you trust

Opening up to a friend or family member can really lighten the load. Sharing how you’re feeling not only helps you, but also gives your loved ones a chance to support you in the way you need.

Connect with others

There’s something powerful about talking to someone who really gets it. Joining a local WM support group or drop into our monthly Coffee and Chat sessions can help you feel less alone — and others may have tips or insights that make a big difference.

Try mindfulness

Practices like mindfulness or meditation can help calm your thoughts and ease stress — especially around check-up times. Take a look at our webinar on WM and mental health.

Talk to your healthcare team

Your healthcare team is here for more than just your test results. If you’re struggling, let them know — they can offer guidance or direct you to extra support if you need it.

Bring someone to appointments

If check-ups make you anxious, it can really help to have a familiar face with you. A friend or loved one can offer support, ask questions you might forget, and help you feel more at ease.

Learn about your condition

Some people feel more in control when they understand their diagnosis and treatment options. If that sounds like you, take a look at our treatment information— it’s clear, up-to-date, and easy to understand.

Look after your body

Moving your body, eating well, and getting rest aren’t just good for your physical health — they can boost your mood too. And, if you ever do need treatment, you’ll be in the best shape to handle it. Learn more about healthy living with WM.

Take it one day at a time

It’s easy to get caught up in “what ifs.” When anxiety starts to creep in, try focusing on today. What feels manageable right now? Even small steps forward count.
