Supporting someone with WM

We understand that supporting someone with WM can be challenging, both emotionally and practically. This section is here to offer helpful advice, guidance, and encouragement, so you can feel supported while you support someone you care about with WM.

Talking about WM

Not sure how to talk to someone about their WM diagnosis? You’re not alone. Get tips and gentle advice on how to open up meaningful conversations that feel supportive for you both. It might be helpful to educate yourself about WM – but you certainly don’t need to be a WM expert. Simply listening and acknowledging their emotions is a great place to start.

Providing Practical Help

Everyone’s WM journey is different, but life will certainly change and you can help to support your loved one as they adapt. With extra hospital appointments and possible treatment, there are ways that you can provide both practical and emotional support to help them through when it matters most.

Looking After Yourself

Your emotional wellbeing matters too. When you take good care of yourself, you’ll be better equipped to care for the person you care about. It’s quite normal to feel anxious and stressed, and there are plenty of ways you can manage your emotional and mental health. You can also contact the WMUK Support Line at any time to share your concerns.

Support for carers

Caring for someone with WM can involve juggling many roles. You don’t have to do it all on your own — support is available to help you feel more in control and less alone.

Explore organisations who can help with everything from navigating benefits, to respite care and adapting to life with a long term condition.
